Faculty Spotlight

Rick Van Eck, PhD, Associate Professor, Graduate Director of IDT Program, Department of Teaching & Learning, UND College of Education & Human Development

Dr. Van Eck received his MS in English from UND, and his PhD in Instructional Design and Development at the University of South Alabama. His dissertation focused on the use of an instructional game to promote the transfer of learning of mathematics and attitude toward mathematics.

Dr. Van Eck was an assistant professor in the IDT program at the University of Memphis, where he was a member of the Institute for Intelligent Systems, co-founder of the Digital Video Group at Memphis, and chair of the steering committee for the Center for Multimedia Arts.

He has become internationally known for his research in instructional simulations and games, and has published extensively in other research areas as well, including pedagogical agents, intelligent tutoring systems, artificial intelligence, and gender and technology.
