How Online Certificates Work
You may earn your Graduate Certificate in English Language Learner (ELL) Education online from The University of North Dakota while you continue to live and work in your own community. You are not required to come to campus at any time!
Interact in a Virtual Classroom
As an online student, you will participate in most class activities at the time and place of your choice. You will use Web-based tools to:
- access course materials
- view recorded classroom lectures
- communicate through message boards
- submit assignments
- take tests
- view grades
In-Person TESOL Seminar (Recommended)
A recommended (not required) in-person seminar will be held once each semester either on the UND campus or in conjunction with a TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) conference held in the region.
Local ELL / ESL Practicum Experience
You will be required to participate in 60 hours of practicum experience, where you will carry out supervised ELL / ESL teaching experiences directly in a K-12 public school setting in your local community.
This experience has been designed with flexible options for students practicing in rural areas, and provides supervisors with the opportunity to utilize technology for conducting in-person student observations when travel to rural areas is not feasible.
