How Distance Degrees Work
You can earn your master’s degree from UND while you continue to work. Although time away from work and home will be expected, many professionals have successfully completed the Master’s in Educational Leadership while maintaining their careers and families.
Courses are offered through a combination of face-to-face meetings held in Bismarck, North Dakota, and online coursework.
Face-to-Face Meetings in Bismarck, ND*
You will be required to meet face-to-face in Bismarck, North Dakota. The number of times you will meet in Bismarck will vary per course. Typically, you will meet 1 to 5 times in Bismarck for a few days each time.
Your instructors will work with the students to determine the schedule of face-to-face meetings. Every effort will be made to find a time that is convenient for most students.
These face-to-face meetings are designed to integrate, extend and apply the knowledge you learned in previous online coursework and readings.
*Courses are also available on the UND campus in Grand Forks, ND.
Online Coursework
You will use Web-based tools to:
- access course materials
- submit assignments
- communicate through message boards
- participate in discussions through threaded discussion tools
- receive your grades
Field-Based Practicum
You will be required to participate in a 1-semester, supervised practicum to experience the role of an elementary, middle, or secondary school principal. You will work at a school within your area.
