Degree Requirements
You will work with your faculty advisor to develop a program of study with a minimum of 35 credits from the following courses. Of the 35 credits needed to graduate, you must complete:
- 3 credits of a 90-hour practicum
- 18 credits at or above the 500 level
- 26 credits from UND (you may transfer up to 1/4 of the required credits from another regionally accredited institution)
Completion of UND's online coursework leads to eligibility for the North Dakota ELL teacher endorsement and may completely or partially fulfill ELL, ESL, or TESOL endorsement requirements in other states. If you are seeking an endorsement or credential in a state other than North Dakota, please refer to that state's requirements.

This course combines readings and theoretical discussion of assessment with hands-on experience in assessing ELLs. Students will learn how to use a variety of formal and informal assessments with a focus on how to use assessment data in planning instruction. Topics will include classroom-based assessments, language proficiency testing, testing accommodations for ELLs, and assessment of ELLs for special education and gifted education, and ELL program evaluation. |

The scholarly project demonstrates critical analysis and application of information and experiences gained throughout the program of study. The project allows students to demonstrate scholarly skills in an integrated manner that is directly related to their roles as teachers, program evaluators, and action researchers. The scholarly project must be approved by the student's advisor. |

T&L 997 – Independent Study |

Under the guidance of their advisor, the student completes an independent research project on a TESOL-related topic. Students typically conduct either an action research study of their own teaching or a scholarly literature review, resulting in a scholarly paper and a presentation of their research findings. This is a culmination experience for the ELL master's degree. |
