Do I need to buy additional materials?
All materials are included with your course fee. If applicable, your materials will be shipped via UPS ground service once your registration and payment is processed.
How long do I have to complete the course?
You have 12 months to complete your course.
If you need more time, you may receive a 3-month extension for an additional fee.

Through the University of North Dakota, you can take advantage of Career Step’s offerings, including online training programs in medical transcription and outpatient medical coding and billing, and outpatient and inpatient medical coding and billing.
Can I get financial aid for online training courses?
This course is a non-academic credit course, so it does not qualify for federal or state financial aid programs. In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take online training courses.
What happens when I complete the Medical Transcription course?
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate of completion from the University of North Dakota. Academic/college credit is not available for this course.
You must obtain a final passing grade of 85% or greater to be awarded a certificate.
If you want to be a “Certified Medical Transcriptionist”, however, you will want to check with The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI). This is the professional association for medical transcriptionists, and they can provide information about AHDI certification and about the career field.
Is Career Step AHDI (formerly AAMT) approved?
Yes. As UND’s educational partner, Career Step is approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI). AHDI approves programs that comply with established criteria for quality medical transcription education.
Am I guaranteed a job?
You should always research the job market in your area of interest before registering for an online training program. In most cases, our online training courses will provide you with the skills you need to obtain an entry-level position. You will also work with a career counselor to identify potential employment opportunities and provide you with ongoing support as you enter a career in the industry.
What happens if I need to withdraw from the course? What is your refund policy?
No refunds are available after you are registered for the course. If available, you should review the course demo prior to enrollment.
